This Day in History

On this day in 1864, the Newburyport Herald reported that Benjamin Brown died the previous night as the consequence of a wound received on the morning of July 4. Apparently Charles Watts, with gross carelessness, fired off a gun to get its ramrod out. Not noticing in what direction the gun pointed, he shot Brown in the back.
