West Newbury issues voluntary water restrictions

Newburyport Daily News

---- — WEST NEWBURY — The town of West Newbury is issuing a voluntary water restriction, beginning tomorrow.

Under the voluntary restriction, implemented by the Board of Water Commissioners, the “odd/even outdoor water use” policy will be in effect.

At this time the public is requested to refrain voluntarily from watering lawns and conserve water in all other practicable ways. Outdoor watering by water users with odd-numbered addresses is restricted to water on odd-numbered days only and even-numbered addresses is restricted to water on even-numbered days only.

The board is asking homeowners to outdoor water only between the hours of 6 to 9 a.m. or 6 to 9 p.m. At this time, automatic irrigation system timers should be reset to operate only on the days and times suggested. Sprinklers and irrigation systems should be shut off outside of these hours.

Do not water during the day when it is hot. The water will evaporate very quickly, leading to a waste of water. If your lawn starts to turn brown and shows signs that it is going dormant, just water shrubs.

Call the Water Department at 978- 63-1100, ext. 127 for more information.
