Library hosts classical concert series

---- — NEWBURYPORT — Take time off from the heat to sit back and enjoy the music with the Classical Concert Series at the Newburyport Public Library. During the month of August, the library will host five free concerts.

The opening performance will be on Thursday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m., and will feature flute player Trisha Craig. Her repertoire includes pieces from Baroque to modern times. On Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m., Quartet For-Te will play selections from classical to contemporary. Quartet For-Te consists of members Loren Lee and Caroline Medford Lieber, violin; Dayla Stoerzbach, viola, and John Bumstead, cello.

On Saturday, Aug. 10, the library will reopen at 4 p.m. to host the Kids’ Concert with the Newburyport Chamber Music Festival for all children ages 6 and older. On Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m., the Newburyport Chamber Music Festival open rehearsal will showcase the skills of musicians working with composer Rober Maggio on his new sonet for string quartet, marimba and steel drum quartet. The final performance belongs to Regina Delaney, who will cap off the series with her own brand of Irish classical music on Aug. 15 at 7 p.m.

The Classical Concert Series provides these musical performances free of charge; they are sponsored by the Friends of the Newburyport Public Library. All performances will be in the Program Room. For more information, call 978-465-4428.
