Connell turns donations over to cancer fund

City Councilor Barry Connell is running for re-election this fall, but he is not going to be cashing donation checks from supporters.

They will go to the fundraising division of the Pan-Mass Challenge, a long-distance bicycle event designed to raise money to fight cancer.

He said a team of about 20 local riders is aiming to raise $100,000 for the cancer research fund.

“If people want to support me, they can write checks to cancer research and Dana-Farber,” said Connell.

The race, which covers close to 200 miles through the state, will take place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2 and Aug. 3.
