Prize-winning photos on display at post office

---- — NEWBURYPORT — Local Postmaster Paul Bolas recently honored four photographers for their submissions in a photo contest that drew 126 entrants.

The submissions were in “hard copy” — in print form — that can be displayed. As a result, scores of photos are currently adorning the walls of the Post Office on Pleasant Street.

“We had a great response,” said Bolas. “People got outside this winter and brought back a variety of very good photos all taken in our area.”

Winner in the adult category was Debra Woodward of North Hampton, N.H. Her winning entry captured a winter scene at the Frog Pond.

The top photo in the junior category was provided by Joseph Miceli, 10, of Windham, N.H., whose shot depicted the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on a cold winter morning.

Each winner was presented with a $50 gift certificate.

Runners-up were Heather Fritz of Salisbury and James Ochiltree of Newburyport.

Winning photos will be on display in the lobby until next year’s winners are chosen, said Bolas, who is an amateur photographer himself.

Judges were Charles Cromley, Jean Snow and Ann Ormond.

Framing was done by Harbor Frames.
