Two-alarm fire strikes PI home

NEWBURYPORT — Firefighters responded in mass to a two-alarm fire in an unoccupied house at Barker Street on Plum Island last night.

Crews at the scene reported heavy smoke coming out of the second floor at the back of the house at 17 Barker St., off 76th St. near Plum Island Point.

According to firefighters at the scene, no one was injured. The fire was reported knocked down in about an hour.

The city’s online property valuation database lists the owner of the two-story, single-family house as Jennifer Cookke of Providence, R.I.

Fire departments from Amesbury, Salisbury, Newbury, Rowley and beyond provided assistance at the scene and coverage at the station.
