Cameron to speak at Poverty Matters meeting
The final meeting of the local Poverty Matters Study Group this academic year will be on Wednesday, May 7, from 7-8 p.m. at the First Religious Society Church, 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport. This session of the study group will be devoted to the subject of local homelessness. The guest speaker will be Newburyport City Councilor at-large Ed Cameron.
Cameron has extensive professional experience dealing with homelessness. He is associate executive director of Housing and Homeless Services at Community Teamwork Inc., serving the Greater Lowell area. Previously, he has worked on homelessness for the City of Boston’s Emergency Shelter Commission, the Pine St. Inn’s shelter and housing programs, and with Horizons for Homeless Children.
Craft Club at library
A drop-in Craft Club at the Newburyport Public Library for third- through sixth-graders will meet on Tuesday, April 29, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.

Volunteer directory published by Pennies for Poverty
Pennies for Poverty has published an updated directory of volunteer opportunities in the Greater Newburyport area. The directory lists 40 organizations — from community service to cultural and environmental organizations — that rely on volunteers and actively seek volunteer support.

Commission on Disabilities seeking members
The City of Newburyport’s Commission on Disabilities is currently recruiting new members. The commission is searching for individuals with disabilities or individuals with family members who have a disability. The commission meets at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month in the police station conference room. The meetings last no longer than an hour.
