Programs at Mass Audubon's Joppa Flats Education Center

Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, located at One Plum Island Turnpike in Newburyport, is a natural history education and visitor center that is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday and Monday holidays, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 978-462-9998 for information about additional programs and events, or visit the Web site at www.massaudubon.org/joppaflats.

SATURDAY MORNING BIRDING

Weekly trip with experienced leaders in a search for avian activity in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. For beginners and birders of all skill levels.

Fee: $12. Registration is not required.

THE WONDER AND THE WOW: A VISIT TO THE BIRD BANDING STATION

Why should kids have all the fun? See science first hand, with Joppa Flats School and Youth Education Coordinator Lisa Hutchings as she heads over to the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge for an exciting, up-close look at migrating birds as they are netted and evaluated before releasing. The Bird Banding Station is only open at the height of migration in spring and fall.

BANDING STATION VISIT FOR BIRDERS

Birders are invited to visit the Joppa Flats Bird Banding Station on the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge for an up-close look at data collection on migrating birds.
