This Day in History

Newburyport Daily News

---- — On this day in 1656, the General Court of Massachusetts appointed a committee to determine where the division line between Newbury and Rowley should run. The committee agreed upon a line, “beginning at a white oak-tree standing upon the north-west side of Easton’s river, and thence running westerly one mile to a heap of stones laid there according to the court’s order, and thence in a northwesterly direction to the Merrimack River.”
