Activities at First Parish Church

Events coming up at First Parish Church of Newbury:

Today and tomorrow: New Eden Community Garden behind the church (20 High Road, Route 1A) will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day for the Newburyport Garden Tour.

Tomorrow: For one day only, worship will begin at 9 a.m. Children from the Sunday school will lead the worship program: “Creation Reveals God’s Majesty.”

June 15: Worship at 10 a.m.; music by Geoff and Kim Goodhue of the Goodhues Band.

Summer worship schedule begins July 6. July services will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Belleville Congregational Church in Newburyport. August services will be at 9:30 a.m. at First Parish Church of Newbury.

Union Church flea market today

Union Church, 350 Main St., Amesbury (across from Alliance Park), will hold an Old-Fashioned Flea Market today, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Rain date: Saturday, June 14. Spaces are available; $10 with your own table; $15 with church table. Donations welcome. Lunch will be available on site. Dubus to speak on domestic violence

Tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at The First Religious Society, 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport, Suzanne Dubus will examine different aspects of domestic violence in society. Often hidden from view, domestic violence and the terrible facts about its prevalence need to be discussed and understood. Education about its existence and prevention and about current support programs is critical.

Dubus joined the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center in 1995 and has served as its chief executive since 1998. She is credited with developing and administering domestic violence prevention programs that are effective, innovative and community-based.
