Council to discuss baseball field funding tonight

NEWBURYPORT — The City Council is scheduled to meet today at 7:30 p.m., and among topics of discussion is a measure to raise money for “a new baseball field behind the Nock-Molin Upper Elementary School and rehabilitating the athletic fields at Fuller Field.”

Such an undertaking has been discussed, but a new source of funding will apparently be proposed.

City Hall officials say that there are excess funds from the elementary school construction project, and they propose to “take from one bucket and put it in another.”

They will seek voter approval in the November election.

The measure at the council meeting will be a request to create “a resolution and order for next special election ballot question approval for new athletic and baseball fields bonds.”
