Tossing the pigskin around for Pettengill House

Coaches for the Salisbury Youth Flag Football League raised more than $1,500 for Pettengill House at their tournament on Nov. 17, according to coach and organizer Jeff Johnson.

The group also collected quite a bit of food for the social service organization’s food pantry, which helps many of the region’s households that are undergoing financial stress.

The games, which were played the Saturday before Thanksgiving, included seven teams of coaches, parents and friends of Salisbury Youth Flag Football League who gave their time for the all-day tournaments to support local families and Pettengill House.

“It was a day full of a lot of fun for a good cause,” Johnson said. “And there were a lot of sore bodies the following week.”

On Monday, Dec. 10, the gardening mavens of the Sea Spray Garden Club will hold this month’s meeting at 7 p.m. at East Parish United Methodist Church at 8 Lafayette Road, Salisbury.

Popular demand is bringing Salisbury gardener and baker Doug Morris to the forefront for the meeting. He’ll be creating holiday centerpieces made from recycled products and all the creations will be raffled off to those present at the meeting. The proceeds will benefit local charities.

If you love winter holiday decorations and the spirit of the season, this is a meeting not to be missed.

Mistletoe Meowness at the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society offers adorable adult cats from the society to good homes for a cost of only $5.

The event runs for two days the weekend before Christmas. Those interested can take home any cat over 1 year old for the discounted rate. All the kitties go home spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines, treated for fleas and worms, tested for feline diseases, as well as microchipped. It’s a real bargain for cat lovers.
