Amesbury man,23, killed in motorcycle crash

MERRIMAC – A young Amesbury man was killed early Sunday morning in a motorcycle accident while driving on a remote road near the New Hampshire state line.

Jeffrey Gilbert, 23, died as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash, according to Merrimac police.

Merrimac police said an emergency call was placed at 12:40 a.m. reporting the accident in the area of 37 Hadley Road. The road runs from the New Hampshire border to the western end of Merrimac, through sparsely populated neighborhoods.

Merrimac firefighters and police, and Amesbury paramedics responded to the scene. Gilbert was transported to Anna Jaques hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the accident is not yet certain. The state police accident reconstruction team is investigating, according to Merrimac police.

Gilbert was a 2008 graduate of Whittier Regional Technical High School.
