District arts festival at Triton this week

Musicians in grades 5 through 12 from Triton’s district schools in Newbury, Rowley and Salisbury will come together tomorrow for the annual arts festival.

The day-long event will see students spending the day at the high school making music, learning theater and enjoying performances by the high school’s select groups and the winter percussion and color guard. A portion of the spring musical will be performed, and the students will have a Q&A session with the cast, crew, pit orchestra and staff.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the art exhibit of students’ works, and the winter marching groups will perform in the middle school gym at 6 p.m.

Culminating the day’s events is the festival concert, a free concert open to the public, beginning at 7 p.m.

This district celebration of the arts is sponsored by the Salisbury PTA, Newbury PTA, Rowley PTO, Triton PTA, Triton Education Foundation, the Triton Music Parents Organization and the Triton District.

Parents and community members are welcome to view the activities during the school day. School-day visitors should report to the high school office on arrival.

There will be a meeting of the Triton Regional School Committee on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the high school library.

The meeting of the Rowley book club was postponed last week due to inclement weather. Members will now meet for a discussion of “The Tiger’s Wife” by Tea Obreht tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at the Rowley Public Library.

The town recently posted a new position of secondary water supply operator with responsibility for installing, maintaining and inspecting town water distribution and treatment systems.

Acting superintendent of the water department Laura Hamilton said that while this is a new position, new funding was not needed. She explained that the funding will come from the vacated position of water system laborer/treatment system operator, left by Ralph Renzulli, which will not be filled.
