Future of Atwood Park up for debate

Newburyport Daily News

---- — NEWBURYPORT — The Parks Department is hosting a citizens meeting to discuss potential improvements at Atwood Park on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall Auditorium.

Residents say that the tennis court there has deteriorated over the years and the park is now essentially a vacant asphalt lot.

In response to municipal leaders, residents have made suggestions for improvements that include a community garden, a bocce court and a new tennis court.

The Parks Commission, which oversees the community’s 17 parks and recreation areas, will offer options from which the public can choose. Members hope the commission can finalize a vision for the park’s future so that they can begin the task of raising funds for improvements.
