AMESBURY — Devin Lund, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anders Lund, was recently honored as the Scout of the Year at Troop 4’s Annual Parent Night.
Scouts and parents recently gathered to honor Scouts with their awards that they have earned this year. The highlight of the evening was the honoring of Lund with a special recognition given by the troop honoring a Scout who has demonstrated Souting’s value, leadership and responsibility during the year. The Scout is awarded a one-week campership to Boy Scout Camp in memory of Arthur Moore, past assistant scoutmaster and current assistant scoutmaster George Langevin.
Amesbury’s Mayor Thatcher Keezer and City Councilor Robert Gilday were also present to recognize the troop’s latest Eagle Scouts with recognition certificates to Joseph Kodwyck, Mike Gilday, Timothy Dwight and Jonathan Ellen. These four Scouts all earned Scouting’s highest award during 2012.
The following progress awards were given out. Greg Marshall received his Tenderfoot Award, Second Class to Noah Joslin, First Class to Ben Jackson and Haakon Lund and Life Awards to Devin Lund and Matt O’Brien.
Lund and O’Brien also received Camping and Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badges respectively.
Many Scouts and adults were recognized for a special program Troop 4 holds called Degrees of Frost. For every degree below 32 degrees that a Scout camps out they get one degree. Special recognition is given for 100 degree increments. The following Scouts and adults were honored:
100 degrees: John Baxter, Dave Pressley, Jacob Darnell, Greg Marshall, Noah Pressley
200 degrees: James Baxter, Evan Provost, Nick Marshall
300 degrees: Nate Kelly, Joey Kodwyck, Matt O’Brien
400 degrees: Dave O’Brien
600 degrees: Christopher Ellen
The following Scouts were also presented certificates of leadership for positions held during the year. Matt O’Brien as senior patrol leader, Devin Lund as assistant senior patrol leader, James Baxter, Noah Pressley and Aaron Scotch as patrol leaders. Evan Provost was honored for his leadership as a troop guide, Nick Marshall as the troop webmaster and Arman Sanentz as troop scribe.
Special presentations were made to Jonathan Ellen for attaining five merit badges after his Eagle Scout Award with a Bronze Palm. Also Matt O’Brien was presented the World Conservation Award for his work in the area of conservation.
To end the meeting, 13 new Scouts were welcomed into the troop who recently crossed over from Cub Scouts. They included Bryson Lund, Bryce Jackson, Noah Black, Jack White, Reece Ciampitti, Tyler Collins, Matt Freeman, Noah White, Jack White, Cameron Comeau, Alex Trolsi, Sean Bellemey and Alex MacDougall. They were all presented their first award, the Scout Award.
Upcoming campouts and summer camp was discussed and Scouts got a chance to sign up for each event. The meeting was closed by the Lightning Patrol.
