Learn about farming, agriculture on May 3

Newburyport Daily News

---- — WEST NEWBURY — The Laurel Grange and New Harmony Farm are hosting a screening of “The Real Dirt on Farmer John” on May 3 at 7 p.m. in grange hall, 21 Garden Street.

A “meet-your-local-farmer” session will follow the viewing of the award-winning documentary. Farmers Erin Stack and Lisa Colby will be on hand to answer questions about farming and agriculture.

A tax-deductible donation of $10 to view the show is suggested, with drinks and snacks available for purchase. Proceeds raised will go toward the Re-mineralize the Earth project, which is currently being used at New Harmony Farm, a CSA organic farm in West Newbury. RTE is a form of gardening in which ground rock dust, compost and a type of charcoal known as biochar are added to topsoil as a way to improve crops and reduce the amount of water needed for farming.
