Get antiques appraised at library Wednesday

---- — WEST NEWBURY — Have you ever wondered what that old family heirloom or those collectibles you inherited might be worth? The West Newbury Historical Society and the Friends of the GAR Memorial Library are partnering to bring an Antique Appraisal Night to the library this week.

The public is invited to bring easy to carry items to the library for professional evaluation by experienced antique dealer, Bob Cianfracco, owner of Rowley’s Salt Marsh Antiques. Ciannfracco has owned and operated the 6,000-square-foot antiques center for 26 years. Housed in a restored 1805 barn at 224 Main St., Rowley, the center displays the wares of 30 experienced antiques dealers.

The Antique Appraisal Night takes place on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the GAR Memorial Library, 480 Main St., but items to be evaluated may be brought to the library starting at 5 p.m. A fee of $5 per item or $10 for three items will be charged for appraisals, with all proceeds going to benefit the library. Light refreshments will be served.

Jane Wild, chairman of the nonprofit Historical Society, said the event at the library is part of a larger effort by her group to review its own collection of artwork, furniture, toys, china, tools, quilts, rugs, books and other items. The society aims to assess its collection “to better define what we are about,” said Wild.

And she’s hoping the Historical Society will host other such outreach events for the community in the upcoming year. “We are always open to new members,” Wild stressed, adding, “We have a very dedicated, but aging board of directors.”
