Arbor Day planting today on Crow Lane

NEWBURYPORT — City officials are declaring its own Arbor Day today with a dedication of a tree nursery on Crow Lane at 9 a.m.

City officials will be present to mark the creation of the site, which until last year was known as the “stump dump.”

Mayor Donna Holaday is expected to read an Arbor Day proclamation.

Members of the multicultural club from Whittier Tech will be planting 30 trees that they have donated to the city to begin the nursery. Students from the River Valley Charter School will also participate in the planting.

Held annually as a day to encourage the public planting of new trees, Arbor Day is Friday. Today is Earth Day.
