No trash, recycling pickup on Labor Day

---- — NEWBURYPORT — City officials have announced that a holiday schedule will mean changes in the collection of trash and recycling items over the Labor Day weekend.

There will be no trash or recycling pickup on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2.

For the rest of that week, trash and recycling will be delayed by one day.

Newburyport’s regular first Saturday of the month drop-off recycling will also be delayed and will be held in conjunction with the city’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Day on Sept. 21.

Hazardous waste for the city of Newburyport and the towns of West Newbury and Merrimac will take place on that day from 8 a.m. to noon at the Newburyport Department of Public Services at 16A Perry Way.

Clean Harbors Environmental Services will be on site Sept. 21 to accept oil-based paint (no latex), varnishes, spray cans, pesticides and other household hazardous chemicals.

Costs are $24 per 10 gallons and $44 for 25 gallons.

Materials from commercial contractors will not be accepted.
