Special Town Meeting set for Nov. 4

At their meeting on Aug. 12, selectmen set the date of the Special Fall Town Meeting for Monday, Nov. 4. The items up for vote will include several zoning and town planning issues and fund transfers.

August is harvest time! Enjoy the local harvest by visiting the weekly Farmer’s Market on the town common on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. from mid-July to late September. Local vendors have a variety of vegetables and locally made goods for sale. Last week’s offerings included corn, cucumbers, peaches, tomatoes, honey, various jams and jellies, lobster, fresh fish, sunflowers, basil plants, natural insect repellent and wound balm, and breakfast and lunch from Fat Belly BBQ’s food truck.

Stop! Don’t throw away those gently-used shoes — recycle them to benefit Team Triton and earn funds for the new stadium project at the Triton Regional High School facility. Thus far, Triton has raised over $2,000 with this fundraiser. So when you’re cleaning out the closets for back-to-school time, gather up all the old shoes, sneakers and work boots, and drop them at one of the collection boxes in the area: the main offices of all five Triton schools, The Yankee Runner and The Greater Boston Running Company, both in Newburyport, and Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank locations.

The Rowley Book Club will meet on Thursday, Sept. 5, to discuss “Bring Up the Bodies” by Hilary Mantel. The club, which meets at 6:30 p.m. at the town library, will examine this compelling story about the perils at the court of Henry VIII. Copies of the book are available at the library.

Watch town board meetings from the comfort of your own living room on cable TV and keep up with what is happening with your tax dollars. Verizon users should tune in to channel 26 while Comcast users can watch on channel 9. Recent meetings televised include: Board of Selectmen, water, light and conservation commissioners meetings and Planning Board and Board of Health.
