This Day in History

On this day in 1812, a special meeting of the residents of Newburyport took place in order to inspect a Hose Engine for firefighting which was on display near the courthouse. After the inspection, the selectmen were instructed to purchase Mr. Jacob Perkins’ Hose Engine. In 1815, it was located in Market Square.
