Barnes completed a three year residency in podiatric medicine and surgery at Kent State University School of Ohio Podiatric Medicine. She was pleased to serve veterans the last two years of her residency at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. She was a recipient of the North Central Academy Scholarship in 2004-2005.
