Still time to register for after-school programs

AMESBURY — Registration is still open for Amesbury Youth Recreation After-School Programs for the 2010-2011 school year. After-school programs take place at Amesbury Elementary School, Cashman Elementary School and Amesbury Middle School.

Programs run Monday through Friday for three hours each day. All programs offer games, sports, arts and crafts, homework help, counselor-in-training opportunities and more.

The middle school after-school program offers field trips, such as sledding, kayaking and bowling; Intergenerational Connections, including Nintendo Wii, cooking, craft making and video production; and Fun Fitness, including snowshoeing, indoor swimming, floor hockey, football and more.

The town's after-school programs continue to partner with the Amesbury Public Schools to achieve the goal of keeping children safe by engaging them in activities that encourage the development of academic and social skills in a secure and caring environment and to help working families by providing a safe and productive environment when the school day ends.

Before-school programs will be held at each elementary school from 7 to 8:30 a.m. All programs start Sept. 7.

For more information on any of the programs or for a financial assistance application, contact Kathy Crowley, Amesbury Youth Recreation director, at 978-388-8137 or vistit the office at 5 School St., second floor.
