---- — SALISBURY -- The town has invoked a ban on non-essential outdoor watering, due to the relatively small amount of rain received over the past several weeks.
“Non-essential” watering is defined as washing activities, such as washing a car or washing down a sidewalk, driveway or home, unless the surface needs to be washed to prepare it for painting or repair.
People may still water their lawns, however it must be done on an “even-odd” schedule. Homes with even numbers -- for example 2 Main St. -- may water on even numbered days. Odd’numbered houses may water on odd-numbered days. Watering must be done before 9 a.m. or after 5 p.m., in order for the watering to be most effective.
The ban on non-essential watering is being done to keep the town in compliance with a state-issued permit for its water system.
