SEABROOK — A New York woman who police say was advertising relaxation services on a Web site could face a year in a New Hampshire jail after being arrested in Seabrook on charges of prostitution.
According to Seabrook police, Xuesu Xie, 49, of Flushing, N.Y., was arrested Wednesday, charged with the class A misdemeanor of prostitution. Arraigned at Hampton District Court in Seabrook yesterday with the help of a Mandarin Chinese translator, Xie is being held on $7,500 cash bail. Her next court date is March 31 at 1 p.m.
According to Seabrook Prosecutor Scott Mendes, Seabrook police started getting complaints on Jan. 6 from those living at the Tudor Apartments at 459 Lafayette Road that men were seen coming and going from an apartment in the complex. Witnesses said the men would stay only a short time and leave, with a steady stream of men arriving and leaving all day and night.
Police learned that on the Web site Craigslist, Xie was offering "Body Relaxing Sessions for your pleasure." It was posted under adult services on Craigslist, along with a 978 area code phone number and a picture of an Asian woman.
"We believe the women who stayed in this apartment only stayed a few days then were rotated out," Mendes said yesterday. "During the investigation, we learned this woman had been previously arrested in Quincy under the exact same scenario."
Keeping the apartment complex under surveillance, police conducted several interviews, Mendes said, and based on the information gathered, police decided to send in an undercover agent.
"From our investigation, we learned you made the appointment, you arrived, you spent 40 minutes at the apartment, 20 minutes later the next man arrived," Mendes said.
Calling the number listed on Craigslist, the undercover agent was able to make an appointment and got into Xie's apartment.
"You had to make a series of phone calls, and someone would call you back, make the appointment and give you directions," said Seabrook police Lt. Michael Gallagher. "We're also looking into whether this involved human trafficking and if this woman was forced into prostitution."
Evidence gathered by the undercover operative allowed police to get a search warrant, which was executed Wednesday by Seabrook Detectives Donald Chase, Daniel Lawrence, Michael Titone, Brett Walker and Mendes.
When officers entered the apartment, they discovered Xie in a bedroom with another customer. The male subject found in the apartment had not committed a crime at the time of the entry and will not be charged, Mendes said, but detectives arrested Xie, and she was taken into custody by Officer John Mounsey.
However, while officers were in the apartment, three more men arrived seeking the services of Xie.
"There was a huge amount of traffic going in and out of this apartment," Gallagher added.
