Meeting on playground equipment set for July 9

NEWBURYPORT — City officials will host a meeting Tuesday, July 9, at 7 p.m. at the public library to discuss a short-term acquisition program for playground equipment.

Parks administrator Lisa Reid said parents and other residents will have a chance to discuss what playground equipment should be selected for installation at the Brown Street playground site.

The City Council recently approved an expenditure of $20,000 to go toward play equipment for youngsters, though it was not clear what equipment will be chosen and by what date it can be installed.

Municipal leaders several weeks ago removed aging wooden playground structures from the Brown School park, and more than 500 signed a petition requesting replacement equipment for that site.
