Night fishing begins at refuge July 19

NEWBURYPORT — Officials at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge have announced that walk-on night fishing will be allowed at the refuge’s Lot 1 beach beginning on Friday, July 19.

Night fishing permits will be available beginning on Friday, July 12 and can be obtained at either the refuge visitor center during normal business hours (Mon. through Fri., 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or at the refuge entrance station. Permits are $10 (or $5 for people age 62 or older).

Opening of additional areas of the refuge beach to fishing are conditioned by the status of the piping plover breeding season. The plover is a federally threatened species.
