PLUM ISLAND — An 83-year-old Malden man faces charges stemming from an accident on Plum Island Turnpike more than a week ago that sent a Newbury woman to a Boston hospital.
Edward G. Robinson, of 44 Watts St., Malden, has been charged with negligent driving and failure to stay within marked lanes after a Sept. 10 accident in which his Toyota Corolla struck Barbara Nachmias-Kedesdy as she rode her bicycle near Plum Island Airfield.
Nachmias-Kedesdy, 67, of 77 Riverfront East, was transported to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport and then flown to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with what police described as "serious but not life-threatening" injuries.
She was discharged home on Thursday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The accident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. Nachmias-Kedesdy was traveling in the bike lane on Plum Island Turnpike when she was struck from behind by the vehicle driven by Robinson.
Robinson's Corolla was traveling east toward Plum Island and had just passed the Plum Island airport when the driver appeared to lose control negotiating the turn, veering out of his lane and into the bike lane, striking the cyclist from behind, police said.
