Adults can go to summer camp, too

NEWBURYPORT — Summer camp isn't just for kids anymore.

Adults can now attend Summer Camp for Grown-ups.

The Newburyport Adult Education program begins the week of July 12 and runs through Aug. 6.

The daytime classes range from horseback riding, yoga, writing and mosaics to jewelry making.

The idea came from feedback the Adult Education program was hearing from people outside of their usual nighttime audience. Teachers off of work for summer vacation were looking for activities during the day, and parents whose children were attending summer camps wanted their own classes and programs, too.

"We just thought we'd give it a whirl," Adult Education coordinator Vicki Hendrickson said yesterday. "People are signing right up."

Classes include Group Horseback Riding, Kundalini Yoga (the yoga of awareness), Parlez Franéßais au Grog avec Anne-Fré©dé©rique McCoy, Getting Started as a Writer, Beginner Wire Jewelry Workshop, Equestrian Polo, Magnificent Mosaics, Puppet Workshops-Faux Fur Puppet: Bear, Kitty, Puppy, or Lamb Puppet; Puppet Workshops-Jellyfish Kit Class.

Each class lasts for four weeks and has a fee. Participants can enroll in a class until the week of July 12.
