Jeans & Jewels fundraiser planned for Saturday

NEWBURYPORT — Guests of The Party: Jeans & Jewels will have a chance to win a diamond valued at $4,500 at a dance party to be held on Saturday at DiBurro's in Ward Hill, Haverhill, from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Proceeds from the event will support the programs of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center that support victims of domestic violence.

The diamond, donated by Kaya of Newburyport, is an exquisite, loose, round, full-cut .82 carat that can be set later as a ring or pendant at the winner's choosing and expense. A chance with a numbered ticket for the Diamond in the Rough drawing is available with the purchase of a $20 glass of champagne and will only be sold during The Party: Jeans & Jewels.

Local residents Louis Rubenfeld and his wife Cyndi Barry Rubenfeld are co-chairs of the fundraiser, and Arthur S. Page Insurance in Newburyport is the presenting sponsor. They are both members of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center board of directors.

This year a "TV Diner with Billy" is an auction item provided by Billy Costa, who is also the event auctioneer. Other live auction items include an original acrylic painting on birch panel by Newburyport artist Alan Bull titled "Maine Woods Loader" and valued at $1,200; two tickets for a Red Sox vs. Yankees game in April; four tickets to New England Patriots pre-season game; a pair of Bruins tickets, trips to Africa, St. Barts and a villa in Italy; two tickets to the "Rachel Ray Show"; and a custom-designed pendant designed by M.K. Winston.

Another special live auction item is "An Evening with Andre." The highest bidder gets to experience an evening hosting friends and author Andre Dubus at their home. Included in this auction item are catering, wine and dessert gift certificates to create a memorable literary night with the author of "The House of Sand and Fog" and Dubus' just-released memoir, "Townie."

Also, for the first time the "Behind the Scenes in Newburyport" live auction item will be available, which includes the chance to be a radio co-host on the WNBP morning show with Win Damon, lunch with Newburyport Mayor Donna Holaday and a harbor tour with the Newburyport Harbormaster Paul Hogg.

There will be a cash bar and entertainment provided by both DJ Scott Langlois and jazz pianist Eric Goldberg. Reservations are $60 per person. For more information or to make reservations, visit www.jeannegeigercrisiscenter.org or call 978-465-0999.
