In the 1990s, hundreds of thousands of ethnic Nepalese were violently and suddenly expelled from

Bhutan because of ethnic cleansing, after having lived there for many generations. Since then, they have been forced to live in UN refugee camps in Nepal. The Adhikaris, who arrived here one year ago, will explain the sad and fascinating story of what has happened to their people, as well as their own personal stories of escape and exodus.

Meditation retreat offered

The Insight Meditation Center of Newburyport will offer a meditation retreat for beginners titled “The Mindful Moment.” The retreat is designed for anyone interested in Insight Meditation (Vipassana). Vipassana is a simple practice that steadies the mind by grounding attention in the present moment; it originated in the Buddhist tradition more than 2,500 years ago. ‘Together at Christmas’ in Amesbury

‘Wednesdays at the Well’ at Pilgrim Church

Pilgrim Congregational Church, 27 Church St., Merrimac, holds a weekly “Wednesdays at the Well” adult gathering on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. The series includes education, discussion and fellowship. The group is currently watching and discussing “The Jesus Lifestyle” to more deeply understand how Jesus’ teachings apply to ones’ lives. All are welcome.
