A birth date to remember

12-12-12 proves lucky for little Zoey

NEWBURYPORT — Little Zoey Cuticchia arrived in the world yesterday with a ready-made story to tell.

Her birthday is certain to be cocktail party banter for years to come.

Kara and Scott Cuticchia’s daughter entered the world on 12-12-12, the first of at least three babies to be born on the historic day at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport.

Welcoming a new daughter is special any day. But Kara Cuticchia said Zoey’s arrival yesterday took on added significance for the Newburyport family. Dec. 12, 2012 is the last time all of the numbers for the month, day and year will be the same until 2101.

“The people here at the hospital were excited for the deliveries today,” Kara Cuticchia said. “It is a pretty special birthday. It won’t be easy to forget.”

Zoey, who entered the world weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces and measuring 20 inches long, was technically due to be born Dec. 19. But since older brother, Jamie, who turns 2 in January, arrived by Caesarian section, doctors planned the same delivery for Zoey.

“When it was decided we were doing a C-section, this date was available. They gave it to us as an option,” Kara Cuticchia said.

But even so, there was no guarantee, the second-time mother said.

“We knew she wouldn’t come after that date, but you never know,” she said. “It worked out.”

Kara and Scott Cuticchia got to Anna Jaques at 7:30 a.m. yesterday, and Zoey was born at 10:09 a.m.

“Everything went smoothy,” Kara Cuticchia said, adding, Zoey, her big brother and her daddy were all doing well.

The Cuticchias, who have made a home in the South End of Newburyport, said they love living in the community, where they have had some wonderful experiences. Now they can add Zoey’s once-in-lifetime birth date to that list.

“It will be easy to remember,” Kara Cuticchia said.
