Groveland horse-riding team shines in show

GROVELAND — Horses and riders took the spotlight during the Sept. 27 equestrian show in West Newbury, but a Groveland woman was a key person behind the scenes.

Dani Douphinette choreographed the performance of the Plum Grove drill team at the West Newbury Riding and Driving Club Pleasure Show at Pipestave Hill Equestrian Area. Despite the threat of rain, all six horses and riders of the drill team rode to the song "Boom Boom Pow'' by the Black Eyed Peas.

The Plum Grove drill team members are: Douphinette riding the horse Badgers Plum Peppy, Kristen Wilson riding Freckle Tivio Dancer, Stephanie Fabri riding Razzcal Flatts, Jocelyn Plummer riding Nova's Best Label Yet, Lindsey Hitchings riding CrackerJack, and Kelly Murray riding Short and Sweet. All of the horses are stabled at Plum Grove Equestrian Center in Groveland.

As well as entertaining the crowd, the drill team members competed in the games portion of the show. The show featured a rescue class where horses that had been adopted from an equine rescue competed exclusively.

Razzcal Flatts was adopted from the MSPCA at Nevins Farm in August by 12-year-old Stephanie Fabri and her parents, Julie and Bill Fabri of Groveland. This was Stephanie's first show on the horse, and they took first place in the rescue class.

The Plum Grove riders collectively took home more than 20 ribbons in the event.

Plum Grove Equestrian Center is owned and operated by Douphinette.
