Last day to register to vote
Today is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 3 city election.
The city clerk's office at City Hall will remain open late until 8 p.m. to allow residents to come in and register.
Meanwhile, candidates for elected office can be seen around the city, meeting with voters and holding signs, as Election Day nears.

At-large City Council candidate Ari Herzog will be on Plum Island on Monday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the home of Lisa Summerville, 143 Old Point Road (entrance on L Street).

Ward 1 councilor candidate Allison Heartquist will hold a "Meet and Greet" at Michael's Harborside on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Newburyport High School civic classes will host a mayoral debate on Thursday, Oct. 15, for candidates Donna Holaday and James Shanley.

Mayoral candidate Donna Holaday will hold a coffee session on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the James Steam Mill and at 6 p.m. at the Sullivan Building.

A forum for Charter Commission candidates will be held tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Custom House Maritime Museum. The forum is open to all candidates, as well as the public.
There will also be a "Meet and Greet" for all of the Charter Commission candidates on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the City Hall auditorium.
Additionally, the Newburyport Democratic City Committee will be sponsoring a forum for the Charter Commission candidates on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. in the City Hall auditorium. This will be a nonpartisan event. Candidates interested in taking part in the event on Oct. 27 should contact Ed Cameron at edcameronNBPT@gmail.com.
Twenty candidates are running for a seat on the nine-member board.

AMESBURY — A 24-year-old Amesbury man is being held without bail after pleading not guilty to weapons possession charges today after police discovered a stolen pistol, ammunition for a second pistol and a makeshift bulletproof vest in his downtown apartment.
