AMESBURY

Veterans Day Parade

Hosted by the American Legion Post 187

Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m.

Units will form in front of fire headquarters at 9:30 a.m. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and proceed to Huntington Square down Main Street to the grounds of the middle school, where the ceremonies will take place. The speaker will be Nancy Moore, widow of Korean War veteran Thomas Moore, and brief comments will be made by Mayor Thatcher Kezer III and Veterans Service agent Kristen LaRue. Tribute to deceased veterans will be paid throughout the ceremony, and a gun salute will be performed by the members of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 2016. If the weather is bad, the ceremony will be held at City Hall.

Veterans Day Service

Hosted by Maplewood Care and Rehabilitation Center

Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m.

Father Jack Gentleman of Holy Family Parish will lead veterans and their families in an opening prayer. Veterans Agent Kristen Larue will speak briefly, and names of those who served and their branches will be read aloud. Maplewood's new administrator, war veteran and Amesbury resident Jim Martino, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Entertainment will be provided by Dan Cleary. Maplewood Care is located at 6 Morrill Place.

Veterans Day Observance

The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars invite all residents of Georgetown to participate in the Veterans Day Observance. Following the ceremony, coffee and doughnuts will be served for all participants at the VFW Post 7608 on Andover Street.

NEWBURY

Veteran's Remembrance Ceremony and Potluck Luncheon

Newbury Firehall

Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10:30 a.m.

Ceremony hosted by Newbury Scouting Community, Boy Scout Troop 44 and Cub Scout Troop 44. People will gather at Newbury Firehall to process to the Upper Green at 11 a.m. where a remembrance service of veterans who gave their lives will commence. After the ceremony on the Upper Green, there will be a celebration of those veterans still among us and serving in the United States Armed Services. A potluck luncheon will follow at Newbury Firehall, where the Scouts will demonstrate a flag folding and a flag retirement or burning when a flag is no longer able to be used. All community members are invited to attend this family event.

NEWBURYPORT

Veterans Day Celebration

Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10:15 a.m.

The parade will assemble in front of CVS parking lot, Pond Street. The walk/march to City Hall will begin at 10:45 a.m. and continue up State Street and end at 12:15 p.m. at the Veterans Cemetery on the corner of Pond Street and Route 1. The Cub Scouts of Pack 21 will be distributing flags. The invocation at 11 a.m., and the benediction will be by the Rev. Christopher Ney of Central Congregational Church. "The Star-Spangled Banner" and a medley of military music will be performed by the NHS marching band, and the Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Nick and Daniel Bennet, whose father, Charlie, is an Iraq/Afghanistan Army veteran. "Flander's Field" will also be recited by students from the River Valley Charter School. This will be followed by a moment of silence and a Newburyport Police Honor Guard rifle volley. Rain location will be in the City Hall auditorium.
