Sixth-graders head to Maine in March

Middle school teacher Diane Weldon received approval from the School Committee last week to take the sixth-graders on a trip to Camp Kieve, a leadership school in Nobleboro, Maine. Students will go to the camp March 8-12.

Second-graders are learning how to choose books appropriate for leisure reading. Students have been taught that just decoding the words is not enough; it's also very important to understand and think about what is being read. During Readers' Workshop time, these skills are being reinforced.

As part of an interdisciplinary study, fourth-graders will do a Haunted Gingerbread House project. Money, geometry and creative writing will be incorporated into the project.

Fifth-grade students are busy with an author study. They are responsible for working with a group to become an expert on the author of choice. The first annual Author's Celebration is scheduled for Nov. 25, when students will present what they have learned.

A fall family dance will take place Friday in the Penn Brook School gym at 6:30 p.m.

Russell Hailey, a student in Fee Bongiorni's kindergarten class, was the top seller in the Meadow Farms fundraiser. Russell sold $572.50 in products.

Conferences will take place this week tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. Middle/high school students will be released at 11:02 a.m. on Wednesday, and Penn Brook and Perley students will be released at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
