Mark your calendars to be sure to vote in the primary election on Tuesday, Dec. 8. The polls will be open at St. Mary's Church Hall from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and for the same times for the final election on Tuesday, Jan. 19. The election is to replace Ted Kennedy, whose death left an open Senate seat in Massachusetts for the first time in 25 years.

The Rowley Public Library welcomes new staff member Hermayne Gordon as library associate for youth services. Previously, Gordon worked at the Burlington Public Library and was also a teacher in Lexington. At the Rowley Library, Gordon plans to reach out to home schooling families and the local schools. Gordon will work on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The Council on Aging will hold its annual holiday party on Dec. 8 at 12:30 p.m. at the Carriage Pines Golf Club (formerly The Rowley Country Club). Reservations are required and space is limited to the first 130 people who pay in full. Contact the council at 978-948-7637 to reserve. The winner of the council's 50/50 raffle will be drawn at the party.

A Special Town Meeting has been scheduled for Monday, Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Pine Grove School. This meeting is being called primarily to seek approval of an appropriation of $110,000 for the town's water board so that they may begin a project that will ultimately build a $7.5 million water treatment plant in town to ensure the safety of the water supply. A quorum of 100 residents is needed to vote at this meeting.
