WEST NEWBURY — Two people are recovering from serious injuries after a nearly head-on car crash over the weekend.
Saturday afternoon, police responded to the area of 569 Main St., where two cars had collided, sending one into a neighboring fence.
According to police Chief Lisa Holmes, the driver of one vehicle, Barbara J. Hurld, 83, of West Newbury, crossed over the center line of the road and sideswiped the driver of a 2002 Hyundai Accent, Hollis D. Grant Jr., 73, of Seabrook.
"It was almost head-on," Holmes said. "Due to the severity of the accident, I called the regional reconstruction team."
Hurld sustained a broken arm, ribs and extensive bruising. Grant suffered a broken hip, shattered knee and numerous other breaks and injuries, Holmes said.
Both were taken to Anna Jaques Hospital, where they are continuing to receive treatment for their injuries.
"They will both be at Anna Jaques a while," Holmes said, based on the injuries they sustained.
The fence of 569 Main St. was damaged in the accident.
Police are continuing to investigation the accident. No charges have been filed.
