NEWBURYPORT — An Arlington man was ordered to receive counseling after he was charged with assaulting his ex-wife and kidnapping his 7-year-old daughter from her Salisbury apartment.
Newburyport District Court Judge Peter Doyle on Tuesday placed Christopher J. Blanco, 34, of 123 Thorndike St., on one year's pretrial probation, and ordered him not to abuse family members and to report to the district attorney's office once a month.
Blanco was accused of assaulting his ex-wife, Nicole Blanco, 32, in her Atlantic Avenue apartment around 2 a.m. on Sept. 6, taking his daughter out of bed and driving away with her.
According to the police report, Nicole Blanco has sole custody of the girl.
Salisbury police notified neighboring communities to be on the watch for Christopher Blanco's car, which was stopped on Route 110 by Amesbury police a short time later, and Blanco was arrested.
He told police he had heard his ex-wife was "partying" with people who had substance abuse problems and he wanted to remove his daughter from that environment.
