Golden Agers club host annual Christmas dinner


NEWBURYPORT — The Newburyport Golden Age Club held its annual Christmas Turkey Dinner at the Elks Hall on Dec. 16 with more than 100 members and guests present. Invited guests were Mayor John Moak, Mayor-elect Donna Holaday and Council on Aging Director Rosanne Robillard. The tables were decorated with colorful table cloths, centerpieces and favors for each member by Helena Thurlow and Georgia Twomey. Georgia also made the 110 favors. Chaplain Paul Richard opened the festivities with a prayer.

The food and desserts were provided by Paula of Carry-Out Café and served by members of the Newburyport High School Interact Club. Ron Chase on the keyboard was the entertainment during and after the dinner.

After the meal Mayor Moak swore in the officers for the coming year. They were: president, Dan Brown; first vice president, Ruth Harderman; second vice president, Larry Vincent; secretary, Carolyn Kyle; financial secretary, Eugene Tatro; chaplain, Paul Richard; and treasurer, Wally Thurlow.

The members of the NHS Interact Club were introduced and presented with a gift and favor. The seven servers were Delphina Gerber-Williams, Emily Roscoe, Alex Haley, Leslie Derr, Asia Mehlenbacher, Chloe Hundertmark and Lindsey Ayotte. Also recognized by president Dan Brown were entertainment coordinator Barbara Skofield, new member adviser Phyllis Fowler, sunshine chairwoman Beverly Cronin, and trip coordinator Lorraine Ouellette.

Dan Brown then presented the mayor, mayor-elect and COA director each with a poinsettia plant.

The first meeting of the New Year will be on Jan. 6 at 1 p.m. at the Elks Club.
