NEWBURYPORT — Two new restaurants will be joining the downtown scene in the coming months.
Enzo Restaurant and Bar, an Italian restaurant, will be moving into the Tannery in the space vacated by the River Merrimac; and Ceia Kitchen + Bar will open on State Street, at the site of the former Grezzo, and specialize in Portuguese and Italian dishes.
Mary Riley of Georgetown who is opening Enzo with her husband, David, said the couple hope to open early next year.
"We're hoping for mid-January, but we want to make sure everything is just right," she said.
Riley, the chef/owner of Savory Kitchen catering and personal chef services, said the restaurant will feature homemade pastas, pastries and breads.
"The focus is northern Italian" with a modern, New England twist, Riley said.
The couple have lived in Georgetown for more than 10 years and love the area, Riley said. As a participant in the Newburyport Farmers Market for the last two years, she became even more excited, she said.
"We think we're going to bring something that's a little different," she said.
In addition, one of the owners of The Rockfish on State Street will be opening another eatery across the street, which he and his wife will run.
Jeff and Nancy Caswell of Newburyport hope to open Ceia Kitchen + Bar by the holidays.
"We would love to be open for Invitation Night, ideally. I am shooting for that," she said.
Invitation Night is a downtown festival that takes place in early December and typically draws hundreds of shoppers.
The eatery will be a European-style restaurant, with some Portuguese techniques and influence, Nancy Caswell said.
"I am 100 percent Portuguese," she said, adding that she will be using family recipes on the menu.
Ceia, which means "supper" in Portuguese, will also offer Italian dishes prepared with fresh pastas.
"The menu will change very often," Caswell said. "I want to make it exciting for our diners and get them to taste something new every time they come in."
A former general manager at Ten Center Street, Nancy Caswell said it's long been a desire of hers to open a restaurant in the city. "That's why we searched so hard for the right place."
"We're really excited about it," she said.
