---- — BYFIELD — Call it a collaborative spooking.
The Triton Regional School District PTAs and Team Triton are teaming up to present a fun-filled Triton is Haunted! fundraiser Saturday to benefit the district’s stadium project, which is set to begin in the spring.
The first-time event will go from 3 to 9 p.m. at Triton Regional Middle School.
Alicia Greco, PTA co-vice president for Triton and one of the event organizers, said the PTAs from all the district schools — Newbury and Salisbury Elementary, Pine Grove and Triton Regional Middle and High schools — as well as the Triton Education Fund, various boosters, administrators, teachers, students and staff at the middle and high schools have all come together to stage the fundraiser.
“The goal of the event is to raise awareness of the stadium project and build toward our goal of raising $2.5 million for this project,” Greco said.
A variety of activities are on tap, from bouncy houses to dunk tanks to pony rides. There will be a “Pie in the Face” station, sack races, football tosses and more and enough goodies, like burgers, hotdogs, pizza, chowder and cupcakes, to satisfy even the hungriest ghoul.
At 4 p.m., the Triton Regional marching band will lead the Horribles Parade around the track. Prizes will be awarded for best costume in three age categories.
The haunted house inside the school opens at dusk. While there will be scare-free rooms, the frightening rooms, all planned and decorated by the students, will include an evil circus, a circa-1900 insane asylum and a zombie room. Those who want a fright-free visit can travel through the Monsters, Inc., Princesses or Candyland rooms. All children are invited to trick-or-treat through the classrooms as well.
“It will be hard to choose your favorite classroom because there are so many great decorations and themes,” Triton High Principal Katherine Dawe said, adding students have worked tirelessly to decorate the classrooms.
The event continues outside at 5:30 p.m. with a performance by the local band So Said the Sun on the field, where a fire pit will be lit.
Costs vary per activity, from $5 for entry into the haunted house to $1 for tickets to play games or enjoy a pony or hay ride.
Dan Valianti, a member of the stadium project committee, encouraged the community to come out and support the event.
“This is a community event for everyone to enjoy, from students to parents to neighbors, knowing that the money raised will go toward something that is very much needed, and will benefit generations to come,” Valianti said. “It is worth all the time and effort that everyone has dedicated to this event.”
