---- — NEWBURYPORT — On Saturday, local post offices will be participating in the 21st Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive to benefit area food pantries. The food drive is a huge boost to each of the following pantries: Community Action, Inc., Amesbury; Community Service of Newburyport, Inc.; Merrimac Council on Aging, Merrimac; Our Neighbors’ Table, Amesbury; The Pettingill House, Inc., Salisbury.
The drive comes at a time when most of the food collected from the holiday season has run out, and the pantries are in great need of donations to restock their shelves for the spring and summer months.
The pantries appreciate all donations of non-perishable food items and personal care products, but are particularly in need of the following: peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna, canned chicken, pasta sauce, baked beans, canned meals (ravioli, SpaghettiO’s, beef stew) macaroni & cheese, canned fruit, cooking oil, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, shelf-stable milk, such as Parmalat, applesauce, cereal, pasta, shampoo, deodorant and large-sized diapers. (Note: glass jars sometimes break during collection — consider plastic/canned options instead).
Those who miss the food drive and would like to donate should contact one of the pantries for information about dropping off items directly.
