Garden club selling plants on Saturday

Newburyport Daily News

---- — WEST NEWBURY — The spring weather has members of the West Newbury Garden Club potting plants and gearing up for the annual plant sale on Saturday, May 18. The sale takes place rain or shine from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Training Field, Route 113 (Main Street), adjacent to the GAR Memorial Library.

It features a wide variety of perennial sun and shade plants dug from members’ gardens. Special attractions include a baked goods table and shabby-chic, new-to-you garden items. Local compost from Sargent Farm is also available for sale. Knowledgeable experts are always on hand to answer gardening questions and to offer advice.

Proceeds from the sale support the garden club’s civic activity, including annual scholarship awards, maintenance of public plant displays and gardening lectures, open to the public. Scholarships are awarded to local students enrolling or currently enrolled in a two- or four-year college who are pursuing a degree in environmental science, earth sciences, landscape design, horticulture, engineering or other area of study related to the environment.

Parking for the sale is available behind the Old Town Hall across the street. For more information about club activities, visit http://www.wngc.org/.
