Bartlet Mall Commission gets $10K grant

NEWBURYPORT — Members of the Bartlet Mall Commission have received a $10,000 grant to help install aerators and bubblers at the Frog Pond at the mall.

The financial gift comes from the trustees of the Kenneth L. Bowlen Charitable Trust, which is represented by local lawyer James T. Connolly. Bowlen was a local resident who left a fund that could be used for the betterment of the community, Connolly said.

The recent grant is designed to help improve the pond at the historic mall. Members of the Bartlet Mall Commission have compiled reports that indicate that aerators must be installed to encourage the return of wildlife and vegetation to the body of water.
