Plum Island fundraiser Saturday

PLUM ISLAND — Local residents are banding together to help raise money to support beach restoration efforts on Plum Island.

A fundraiser will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, at PI Beachcoma, which is donating 20 percent of its sales for the day to help offset some of the cost of reinforcement efforts to protect several homes on Annapolis Way that were threatened last week by high tides. PI Beachcoma is located at 23 Plum Island Blvd.

Emergency efforts to place coir sandbags in front of several homes is expected to cost between $120,000 and $140,000, an expense to be borne by the property owners.

Saturday’s fundraiser will include live music, raffles and more.

A Plum Island Beach Restoration Fund to help the residents has also been established at the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank, 63 State St., Newburyport.

Visit PI Beachcoma on Facebook at www.facebook.com/pibeachcoma to learn more about Saturday’s fundraiser.
