This day in historoy

On this day in 1903, The Daily News cited City Marshal Ayers’ annual report for the year of 1903 as follows: “There had been 797 arrests, including 60 for assault & battery, 5 for assault on an officer, 513 for drunkenness, 5 for runaway girls, 2 for bastardry, 4 for profane & indecent language, 1 for being lewd & lascivious, 3 disorderly persons, 1 for violation of the liquor law and 12 for violation of the Sunday law.”
