---- — AMESBURY - A Fitchburg mother with a history of drunken driving is expected to be arraigned today in Newburyport District Court after her arrest Saturday night for allegedly driving intoxicated with her 8-year-old child in the back seat.

Elizabeth Alvarado, 29, 105 Clarendon St., second floor, Fitchburg, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol (second offense), child endangerment while OUI, fail to stop and no inspection sticker.

Officers David Noyes, Thomas Nichols and Raymond Landry made the arrest after Noyes pulled her over for allegedly running a red light at the intersection of Elm Street and Route 110.

According to Amesbury police Sgt. Al Chatigny, Noyes was on patrol at the busy intersection near Interstate 95 around 11:45 p.m. when he noticed Alvarado’s sedan fail to stop at a red light before entering the highway’s southbound entrance. Noyes pulled the car over and noticed that in addition to a passenger in the front seat, an 8-year-old child was in back next to an empty car seat not wearing a seat belt. After speaking with Alvarado, Noyes believed she was under the influence of alcohol. After failing a series of tests, Noyes placed her under arrest.

Chaitgny said Alvarado, who had just left a birthday party, blew just past the .08 blood alcohol limit for drunken driving.

“It wasn’t very high but she was indeed intoxicated,” Chatigny said.

Alvarado spent the night inside an Amesbury police cell but was released on bail the next morning, Chatigny added.
