This Day in History

On this day in 1800, lawyer, statesman and diplomat Caleb Cushing was born. His accomplishments included mastering five languages, editing a dictionary (in which he found 5,000 errors), inking a treaty with China and becoming Newburyport’s first mayor … all by the age of 50.
